was hatte Geronimo mit Osama Bin Laden gemeinsam?

Beitragvon many » So 8. Mai 2011, 15:46

Hallo zusammen,

"Geronimo was an Apache leader in the late 1800s; Osama bin Laden led terrorist group al Qaeda.
STORY HIGHLIGHTS
•Tying Geronimo to bin Laden "undermines the military service of Native people," official says
•Dozens of Native Americans have died serving in Afghanistan and Iraq
•Geronimo was an Apache leader in the late 1800s
(CNN) -- In light of reports that linked the name "Geronimo" with the operation that took down Osama bin Laden, Native Americans expressed disappointment Thursday and pointed to the sacrifices they have made in the service.

"To associate a Native warrior with bin Laden is not an accurate reflection of history and it undermines the military service of Native people," said Jefferson Keel, president of the National Congress of American Indians. "It's critical that military leaders and operational standards honor the service of those who protect our freedom."

Initial press reports said that "Geronimo" was used in the raid to refer to bin Laden, but a senior administration official later told CNN that it was code for the act of capturing or killing bin Laden, not for the man himself.

Keel said that according to his understanding, the most-wanted terrorist's code name was "Jackpot," and the name of the operation was "Geronimo."

Geronimo was an Apache leader in the late 1800s who is revered by many in the Southwest as a hero, the NCAI said.
Harlyn Geronimo, a descendant of the warrior, was sharply critical of the use of his great-grandfather's name.

"Whether it was intended only to name the military operation to kill or capture Osama bin Laden or to give Osama bin Laden himself the code name Geronimo, either was an outrageous insult and mistake," he said.

To use the name is "such a subversion of history that it also defames a great human spirit and Native American leader," he said.
Thom Wallace, communications director of NCAI, said that whatever the reason behind the use of the name "Geronimo" and the debate over it, the real conversation was being lost. That conversation, he said, is about the 24,000 American Indian active members of the military. A disproportionately high number of Native Americans serve in the U.S. military, he said.

The group pointed out that 61 American Indians and Alaskan Natives have been killed serving in the armed forces in Afghanistan and Iraq, and 445 have been injured.

"Let's be very clear about what is important here: The successful removal of Osama bin Laden as a threat to the United States honors the sacrifice these Native warriors made for the United States and their people," said Keel, himself a veteran.

Geronimo was a great warrior and Chief a real man who fought his enemies with no supplies out gunned and out numbered for many years . Osama Bin laden should have been proud to be compared to such a great warrior . Unlike the paper pushing wimps that sit in the whitehouse for the last twenty years . That if faced by a real warrior like Geronimo would crap there pants and run like the cowards they are . Not only are our leaders wimps so are all the city people that let the drug dealing punks and wantabe tough guy cops walk all over them . Real men dont cry about some one calling them names they put their fist in persons mouth our shoot them with their 45 . I have great respect for all warriors even my enemy and none for wimps that cry about name calling .

I also agree, this is pure racist as is the owner Dan Snyder of the billion dollar football franchise Washington Redskins. Using the term redskin is like calling black people nigger. However, not even a black in the white house can justify this Geronimo crap. American Indians were savagely killed by the Americans. Not one treaty ever written was in tack to date.

All of their lands with mineral resources and wealth were stolen
by the US government

The U.S. military went to great pain in order to justify a proper funeral. They should have at least given the American
Indian the same respect.

Freedom the United States has not yet overcome its genocidal history. The United States is a society obsessed with superiority complex-which is way of hiding inferiority guilt complex. Hence, the selection of this clearly provocative racist codename for Bin Laden reflects the fact the United States was founded not on freedom but on genocidal aggression and it has not been able to overcome its aggressive past. Perhaps another 400 years and this lust for blood and revenge will subside.

Interesting choice of word "Geronimo", the same word was also used in the movie about the CIA with Mel Gibson called "Conspiracy Theory" which had many of the same elements working as the Bin Laden case...in the words of Karl Sagan "More courieser and more courieser".

When it comes to the mention of Geronimo's name, one would do well to recall the fact that those who fight for freedom abound in the earth. That if the First Nations of America were not shining principalities and authorities of light, slavery would never had a need to steal persons from other places in the world. Thus is how you all should remember Geronimo. It is better to reside with the Armies of God in Heaven than to feed the Dissective Nazism run over an impermanent geography. The Lamentations of those fallen in the line of capture by Dissectice Nazi Practice are not more wrathful than those whom have flown to God. Neither are they thrown into hell by the Lord God. Merely by the agent of disease and its grip upon the Dominion of mankind.

History is written by the winners of the wars waged, and Hero's are the men who time does not forget. The west vs the east. Your philosophy vs mine. Your capitalist ideas vs their socialists. Your God vs mine. You invade their country, they try and blow up yours. They build their empires at the expense of your life, and label you a terrorist for fighting back. Peace in this world will come when the empires of the day stop their world dominating objectives, and focus on healing, liberating, educating, and loving. The freedom loving, peace seeking, majority of the world are being manipulated and killed for the benefit of the few, who divide and conquer us all. Peace.

Again the insult that North American original peoples are like any other tribes of peoples is inane and absolute junk journalism. The only thing in common with any peoples in the world is the take over of their lands and birthrights. So to use a Chief who did not play the game with the european is far from Bin Laden after all the he did for the Bush family."

"Code name for Osama bin Laden was "Geronimo." Would President Obama allow Martin Luther King's name be used to represent this NUT JOB terrorist against our nation? NO!! This is a disgrace to all American Indians. Geronimo was a hero standing up for his peoples rights to live in peace from the U.S. Government & it's holocaust against them."

Hallo <many>

Hallo many und Hetane,

"Aho To All Good Indians and their Global Sympathizers:

Listen: prepare to break your heart again!!!!

What do you expect from Obama? As a 2008 presidential candidate he impressed young and old never voted before Indians and chose the Crows in Montana as his first itinerary.... where he was promptly given an Indian name. That move secured at least half a million Indian votes nationwide. Did you know that majority of his winning votes came from first time young & old voters?

Obama was then and is, obviously, being advised by the remnants of the arrogant military mentality that massacred thousands of Indians to enforce 'benevolent assimilation" as well as caused the inevitable death of Custer followed by the ultimate demise of the Red Mans' way of life.
FYI--it was the Crows who cooperated with the US military by providing scouts to the 7th Cavalry who was led by Gen. George Custer. In 1876, Custer and his entire command were slaughtered by a force of about 7000 warriors of Plains Indians led by the Sioux, in Greasy Grass of the Black Hills (now Montana), better known to the white man as Little Bighorn. Until 1991, the battlefield was Custer National Battlefield, but Pres. George H.W. Bush and Congress, in a rare show of conscience, renamed it as Little Bighorn National Battlefield Park.

Therefore, the same very well alive, arrogant, racist military attitude is guilty of naming the 'highly questionable' Kill Osama Navy Seals operation as 'Geronimo.'

Shame! shame! to the United States government for disrespecting Geronimo and killing Osama for the second time.

Obama Admin continues to compare Native Americans to Al Queda

The code name for the operation to capture Bin Ladin was "Geronimo", the Indian who wouldn't surrender and whose tribe has yet to gain federal recognition.

Weeks after DOJ compared Al Queda to Seminoles in a court brief, Obama, whom the Crow tribe recognized as one of their own during the campaign, continues to demonize American Indians.

The first indication for President Obama that Osama bin Laden had been killed came when a Navy SEAL sent back the coded message to Washington that said simply, "Geronimo-E KIA."

Geronimo was the code name for the operation that sent two teams of 12 SEALS zooming by Blackhawk helicopters to a walled compound in Abbotabad, Pakistan, on Sunday to kill or capture the most wanted man in the world. Anxious White House officials weren't positive that they would find bin Laden in the fortress-like complex, that he might leave while the SEALS were en route.

http://abcnews.go.com/...

Geronimo is a hero. Osama bin Ladin was a terrorist.

Geronimo resisted westward colonial expansion and "Manifest Destiny" and as a result, his tribe is still unrecognized by the federal government, punishment of his people for their resistance to imperialism, violence and genocide.

Weeks ago the Obama DOJ compared the Seminole resistance to American colonialism and removal policies as similar to Al Queda and "terrorism".

“Not only was the Seminole belligerency unlawful, but, much like modern-day al Qaeda, the very way in which the Seminoles waged war against U.S. targets itself violate the customs and usages of war.

http://turtletalk.wordpress.com/...

Which ignores the US Army's use of germ warfare and ethnic cleansing in spite of Supreme Court opinions by Justice John Marshall declaring such removals illegal...

So the question becomes: how could President Obama allow such an important military operation in American history to become another slander against American Indians?

Does anyone remember Lori Piestewa?

http://en.wikipedia.org/...

What is wrong with "our" President that he continually allows the demonization and comparison of Native Americans to our mutual enemies, Al Queda?

Or honestly, do I even need to ask.

As a federal attorney, currently attending an Indian Law conference...?! Is this all we are to this government? Useful demonizations and court anecdotes?

Where's the commitment to civil rights and equality I expect from a Democratic President?

Geronimo?

Really?

This isn't an eloquent or greatly researched diary. As are most of my diaries, it is expressive of the outrage which is unnecessarily inflicted upon all Americans...in this case Native Americans. But the slander that was committed in the naming of this military operations is another attempt at remaking history...the comparison of American Indian resistance to colonization, assimilation and termination policies are insufficiently similar to Al Queda and our 21st Century crusade against Islamic tribalism for the official policies and legal briefs of the United States government to attempt to make such comparison. It is racist and it is wrong and an official apology from the President is needed and demanded.

UPDATE:

I just ran my position through a Chirichuhua Apache and fellow law grad and student of critical race theory. It is racist. And in his words "unbelievable".

Update x2:

The initial reaction by "Democrats" is disheartening and yet somewhat expected. Native issues never rank high on Democratic radars. But when issues and facts are raised and are met with hostility and racism...

Hopefully another Native member of Dkos will see this and pick it up and put it words you moderates can understand.

I'm outraged and I should be. You should be too.

Hallo,

Und mal ganz zum Schluß meiner Überlegungen : Auch selbst nicht alle Apachen.. sehen "Geronimo" heute als einen der größten "Indianerführer" und Verehrenswürdigsten, bzw. als Hero ... an;

LG,

elk

Noch ein abschließender Hinweis zum "eventuellen .." Hintergrund der unglücklichen Namensgebung:

People asking why bin Laden code name was ‘Geronimo’

Dabei ist natürlich letzter Satz ausschlaggebend :

not primarily to protect his lands."

Nachtrag

-----------

(1) "Guys, this is misinformation. The signal was not "We've IDed Geronimo," but "Geronimo-E KIA." Geronimo was the name of the operation, not the target. In the transmission, "Geronimo-E" stood for the enemy in Operation Geronimo--that is, Osama bin Laden; "KIA" of course meant "Killed in Action."

Also, several other anti-al Qaida airdrop operations have been codenamed Geronimo (e.g., Geronimo Strike III in 2007), so the name probably refers to the famous WWII-era paratrooper shout, rather than the Indian leader directly.

Two lessons: (a) wait until you have all the information before deciding to be outraged, and (b) blogs are not a legitimate source of information."

---------

(2) "its not being hypersensitive. its just correcting, these days everyone is saying that all ethnicities need to be aware of what they are saying about another ethnicity. So how is this code name not taken into consideration when there are a thousand other names they could of thought up?"

P.S:

"That was a slap in the face of my family."

Geronimo's Family Reacts To Bin Laden Codename
Codename 'A Slap In The Face Of My Family,' Great Grandson Says

POSTED: 11:32 pm MDT May 4, 2011
UPDATED: 12:32 am MDT May 5, 2011

MESCALERA, N.M. -- The U.S. Navy Seals used the codename "Geronimo" for Osama bin Laden, which has ignited a firestorm of reaction
across the Native American community.

Joseph Geronimo, great-grandson of Geronimo, said he wants to set the record straight about the legendary Apache warrior, who was
born near Silver City.

"He was more American than anybody else. If there's an American, it's Geronimo," Joseph Geronimo said.

Joseph Geronimo said he remembers stories about his great grandfather from the time he was a boy.

"I was fortunate to talk with a lot of the people who fought alongside him who were warriors," Joseph Geronimo said.

"The only thing my grandfather did was protect his family and protect the land," Joseph Geronimo said. "Those so-called historians,
they twist things around and make him look like a terrorist and make him sound like something he's not."

Joseph Geronimo said his family has defended their land in more ways than one. They have three generations of military service, so
for the Navy Seals to use the Geronimo name to describe one of the most hated terrorists in the world was an insult to his family.

"That was a slap in the face of my family. There's no way you can compare Osama bin Laden to my grandfather," Joseph Geronimo said.

The staff director for the Senate Indian Affairs Committee is also objecting to the military's use of the codename. The Indian
Affairs panel is set to hold a hearing Thursday on racial stereotypes of native people.

"Our name cannot be destroyed, and my grandfather can't be put down. He's greater than any man who ever was," Joseph Geronimo said.

Hi, Many,

http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.geronimo/165/mb.ashx
