Help for the Xingu Indians - Ein Überlebenskampf

Beitragvon Elk Woman » Mi 9. Sep 2009, 13:33

Please help the Xingu Indians

>>It is about the native peoples of the Xingu river in Brazil whos existence is threatened by a series of dams that the government want to build there. !4 of these peoples live in the so called Xingu Indigenous Park, an area that was promised to them in the early sixties. Several of these peoples were on the verge of extinction (a couple of them numbered lowere than 100 persons) but in the park they have managed to survive. together with some NGO:s they started projects for education, medicine and sustainable subsistence. They also managed to increase their population with 3 percent per year.

But as usually the promises of land seem elusive. When the majority society want to have some economic gain out of indian land than the indians have to move. And where shall they move. The land around the park are partly destroyed by logging and large scale farming. So for some of the Xingu peoples the park is a last refuge.

So if you like you maybe can spread the petition to people you know. I think the Xingu peoples need all the support they can get:
